Was is it a Good Call?
Brooke Mayo may have been leading the fight after three rounds or it was a close fight with Veta but the ref had to stop the fight with that huge hematoma coming from the left eye of Brooke.
We have seen other fights where the doctor would let it go but tonight the doctor made the decision to stop it, was it the right call? Could Brooke have gone on? Do the men have a favorable position over with a doctor then a woman? That will probably be explored in the next few weeks.
Brooke was pleading with the doctor and the ref that she could still see and that both should finish the fight with only a under a minute left of round three.
Now many people are questioning the doctor’s call that with a hematoma like the one Brooke had, could she still maintain a fighters position or was it a safety call of the fighter? Everyone knows that the ref and the doctor are always on the safety of the fighter and if they have any question of the fighter that cannot make the bell at the end of the fight they have to call it. It would be on their hands; if the fighter is injured or something happens to the fighter if she can never come back into the cage again and I am sure that no one would want to be put into that position at all.
We should all have to agree that it was the right move for the fighter’s safety and well being that she should not continue till she is able to come back and fight another day.
Hopefully both fighters will get a chance to have a rematch since the fight was really close on the cards as I saw that Brooke was leading the cards and looking at a decision win over Veta.
This was Brooke’s pro debut and promotional debut as she will go 0-1 as a pro but will learn from this experience to become a better fighter and hopefully not have the fight go to a decision or a doctor stoppage again.
Great job to both fighters tonight it was well made match up by Bellator, both fighters styles made it a fight to remember.
