Some changes

from Rosi’s Blog by rosisexton

I’m now training and fighting out of Next Generation in Liverpool. It’s a great gym, with high standards and top coaches. I’m learning a lot, getting my ass kicked, and really enjoying MMA again.

Over the past year, I’ve been privileged to train with some really great coaches. I’ve got to meet and hang out with some amazing people. In MMA terms, I learnt a lot, I improved a lot and started to understand a little more about the sport and it’s component parts. In particular, I need to thank Pete Irving, Paul McVeigh, Ollie Richardson, Gaz Pilot, Billy Cooper, Paul Tite and Nathan Leverton for their ongoing time, support and patience both as friends and as coaches. I’m also lucky to have some great training partners who have taught me as much as I’ve taught them.

Something that niggled at the back of my mind though, even before my last fight and especially after it, was that I was missing something. Perhaps the best word for that something is ‘consistency’. I was trying to put the pieces of a training program together from the inside, always a risky thing to try and do. Sometimes it’s hard to know, when you’re in the middle of a fight camp, whether you’re doing too much or too little, or simply spending your energy on the wrong things. And sometimes, a fighter just needs someone who’s there all the time, pushing him or her to get that extra takedown, do that little bit more work, get up a fraction of a second faster, to focus on getting a technique right when exhausted and under pressure in a sparring session.

I’d like to thank Paul Rimmer, Danny Withington and all the lads at Next Generation for welcoming me. I’ve been there a few weeks now, and already it feels like home. It’s a great team, I’m proud to be part of it, and I’m looking forward to fighting again – hopefully soon!
