This weekend’s Cubs-Cardinals series in St. Louis comes at a particularly interesting point in the season. First, there’s the little matter of the standings. Maybe you guessed the Cards would have an early ride atop the National League Central, which is where they are at 19-14. But it’s unlikely you would have predicted the Cubs would be: A. 17-17 after 34 games; and B. trailing three teams — the Cardinals, Reds and Brewers.
