Cyborg subjected to random drug test, what if she fails?
MMAfighting.com and CSAC have reported that Cris Santos will be subjected to a random drug test before she can be licensed in the state of California before her title fight against Charmaine Tweet at Invicta FC 11. According to the article it states that California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Foster will get the results by on or around Feb 24th. The bout is scheduled for Feb 27th in L.A. and according to CSAC she has to satisfy all drug testing and medical requirements.
Cyborg back in 2011 has tested positive for an illegal banned substance in her bout with Yamanaka at Strikeforce – Melendez vs. Masvidal. She was banned from competition in California with license removal and the WMMA world rankings for a year. Since failing the test the commission wants Cyborg to be clear of everything before she gets a license and defends her title. Since her suspension Cyborg has passed three drug tests two with Invicta.
This brings up a question what if she fails a drug test? Does Invicta have a backup plan in place already, or are they going to scrap the fight and wait for another card.
Cyborg has already been away from the cage for a year and half and this would make it longer if she fails.
Is there a chance for Invicta to have an Interim championship? As the interim championship goes the two top contenders in the featherweight division depending on which rankings system they use at Invicta will have to fight each for the interim belt and then when the champion title holder can make it back they will have to fight the interim title holder to reunify the belt.
According to WMMA World Rankings the two possible contenders in the featherweight division would be Tonya Evinger who has fought with Invicta in the past and another contender Rosy Duarte out of Brazil and Charmaine Tweet who are currently signed with Invicta.
Another possibility is make Charmaine the champion if Cyborg fails the drug test and have Charmaine defend the title against the next possible contender.
These are questions that need to be asked since we know that Cyborg has failed a drug test in the past and who knows how many times she was not tested before a fight in the past and might have been “juiced” as many fighters call it in the mma world.
In fairness to the competitors on this upcoming card does Invicta have a plan if something goes wrong with main event although they have covered the others matches when the injury bug has struck and hope they can answer the question before the fighter(s) make the trip to L.A. and not have a fight due to fighter(s) not playing by the rules.
