Marloes Coenen Addresses Strikeforce Release

Just four days removed from losing her Strikeforce welterweight title, Marloes Coenen was released from the largest MMA organization that’s still willing to promote female fights. While some fans thought the company made a mistake by issuing Coenen her walking papers, the unfortunate reality has become her worst nightmare.

“Nope, it’s not a bad dream.. #wakingupafterthenews,” Coenen tweeted Thursday morning.”

Coenen’s abrupt firing comes on the heels of Alistair Overeem’s unexpected release. Although there is plenty of controversy surrounding the now-former heavyweight champion’s removal from Strikeforce’s Grand Prix in September, very few answers have been provided as to what exactly went wrong between the San Jose, California-based company and Overeem’s Golden Glory representatives.

It appears Coenen may be guilty by association and that’s why she was caught in the crossfire. Four athletes from the famed fight squad have been fired from Zuffa, LLC, the parent company of the UFC and Strikeforce, since last Friday.
