Tecia Torres Speaks on Education and Pay It Forward
“I love it when someone or better yet a child/teen tell me that I inspire them. My Public Service announcement for today and forever is Education First. I was 20 when I graduated college. Both my parents dropped put of H.S and never finished. Despite my siblings and cousins not going to college I made it my goal to be the one who stood out. At that time I was working a part time job at Panera Bread from 5am to 1pm, School 2-3x week, & amateur fight training. I managed it all and still won 2 ammy Kickboxing titles the same year. If I can do it..so can you. Never give up on your dreams and remember there is always life after fighting. You need to be prepared for it. It’s not easy, you will cry, you will be tired, but nothing great ever came for free. Work and earn yours! I’m telling you the reward is so much more fulfilling in the end.”
“To add to my story: A few months ago an 18 yr old young man came to me and said he really enjoyed my fighting and wished me luck on the show. He added he wanted to be a fighter & that he had dropped out of H.S. I shared my story a little more in detail … fast forward 2-3 months he saw me at the beach one day and tapped me on the shoulder saying, “hey I started school again because of you.” I can’t explain the feeling of joy I felt for him…. Change one life….change the future. Pay it forward. ☺”
