For those of our readers who don’t know a great deal about you, please write a short bio. Well, I grew up mostly in Virginia. I used college as an excuse to travel and live in various places throughout the US. After eight years of that, I somehow ended up settling down in L.A. I took my first mma fight 6 years ago after 6 months of training, lost, and haven’t thought of quitting since.
Have you been involved in any sports other than martial arts? I dabbled around in a bunch of different sports growing up: soccer, basketball, track, field hockey..nothing serious.
How did you get involved in MMA? It started with me taking one kickboxing class. Martial Arts has been my long withstanding passion, so I just wanted to get back into it after years away, stay fit and release some inner anxiety. Afterwards, I was asked by the gym owner if I had ever thought of competing. I gave him the cold shoulder and put the question aside for a year or so, not knowing that women actaully competed in combat sports other than boxing. But after I watched Roxanne Modaferri beat Jen Howe on a YouTube video, I was instantly hooked and something just clicked. I have always been pretty athletic but I never focused on any one sport. Fighting was a chance to keep a competitive outlet in my life.
What is your record and do you have any impending fights? I have been training as an amateur for quite some time compared to most. I don’t put all eggs in one basket and I take one fight, one milestone at a time. There is no pressure there. If I get the opportunity to fight on a bigger stage, great, if not, I can live with it.
What is the status of your MMA journey and where do you see it leading? I live a pretty minimalistic life and I like it that way. I train in mma, stay as active as possible, and work a regular 9-5 job.
Tell us a bit about your life outside the cage. I live a pretty minimalistic life and I like it that way. I train in mma, stay as active as possible, and work a regular 9-5 job.
Do you currently have a nickname in this sport? If so, what is it and why? My last coach gave me the nickname “The Silent Assassin.” It speaks for itself. I am mostly unassuming, shy and reserved in real life, but I can take on a different persona when I need to.
If you could offer one bit of advice to an aspiring fighter what would it be? Surround yourself with a coach and team that you can trust and won’t let you get in over your head This is a humbling sport, so remain motivated by knowing that someone out there is building a better mouse trap than you. With that said, be patient with advancing in your fight career.
Would you like to give a shout out to any sponsors or individuals who have supported you? No sponsors. Just “thanks” to all of the coaches that I have had over the past 8 or so years.
Is there anything you’d like to add? N/A
