Name: Sammi “MMA Brat” Roberts

Age:17

Location: West Virginia

Gym:  Moundsville Martial Arts

Weight Class: Class: Bantamweight (135)

Pro/Ammy: Ammy

I have been dabbling in MMA since I was 9 years old. Started as a blogger/interviewer and wanted to get a little bit of knowledge so started training in Chun Kuk Do. At that point some of the fighters dubbed me the MMA BRAT.

I decided to take a few years off and when I came back (because I had tried my hand at karate and wrestling), I figured I should go all in so I started training at a Pankration gym under Master J Corley (Moundsville Martial Arts) where I cross train in everything from boxing/kickboxing–pankration-BJJ.

I am the reining state champion in No Gi Jiu Jitsu and have won & placed at several jiujitsu tournaments including winning the teen and adult female divisions at my first and only submission-only tournament.

I started playing basketball in 2nd grade and played up until my 10th grade year, I play volleyball, run track and was all conference last year as a shot and discus thrower, and I wrestled when I was younger winning the JR High state championship in 6th grade before hanging it up.

I won a national contest for Scholastic News to be akids reporter for the magazine and website but found it a little boring. I was always watching MMA with my father and noticed all these fantastic female fighters I was watching (mainly BODOG Fights) had no one talking about them so wanted to give it a try. As soon as I started I had fantastic females like Lana Stefanac, Sam Wilson, Tara LaRosa, Miesha Tate, Felice Herrig and others helping me out and making me fall in love with the sport.

Right now Just trying to improve as much as possible while forming my own unique style. I would like to try my hand in boxing and maybe the world championships for pankration before making the leap to MMA I am always doubling and or tripling up on activities from marching band, track, bjj, martial arts, volleyball…. So I’m always on the run for something

MMA BRAT. I started really young and was always a little bratty I guess lol Follow your dreams and go after them full force. Don’t go in to a fight without expecting to come out with a black eye.

From the beginning Slade has supported me with Tussle fight Gear and along the way others have showed me love and support like KO Artists, YOU MAD, My Dad and Mom for all the support, my Coach and training partners, and most importunately the fans and friends that keep me motivated.

Thus far I have only wrestled, 12-0 against girls and 65-39 against boys and grappled and to be honest I don’t keep track of the grappling. I have some loses to a couple guys, and lost to a girl with several more years then me, have gone 2-1 against another girl that’s really good with far more time in and have a loss to an adult female, but against girls my age and close in experience I haven’t lost.

I would just like to say that BJJ and Martial Arts in general is my release. I don’t know how I would be able to stay happy without being able to release frustration in the gym, even the lead up to tournaments…. I have the typical nerves and everything, but the anticipation of going to war keeps me on my toes. Everyone keep an eye out for Team Bad Street, the best little team in the country.
